Blog Tour: The Player and the Pixie by L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid

ThePlayerPixie_Tour

The Player and the Pixie

Author: L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid
Series: Rugby #2
Genre: Romance
Release Date: April 12th 2016

Summary:

How can someone so smokin’ hot be so bad in bed? I mean, Sean Cassidy is absolute rubbish. RUBBISH. He is the epitome of walking, talking false advertising and I want a refund! Plus he’s an arsehole. So… what is wrong with me that I can’t stop thinking about him?

The Pixie and the Player is a full-length, romantic comedy novel, can be read as a standalone, and is the second book in the Rugby Series.

THE PIXIE
Lucy Fitzpatrick doesn’t like rugby.
As the little sister of Ireland’s most infamous rugby player, Lucy can’t seem to escape the championship-sized shadow cast by her big brother, or her mother’s frequent attempts to micromanage her future. Her rainbow hair is as free-spirited as her quest for inner peace, yet overbearing expectations keep bringing her down. And when she’s down, her compulsive little problem lands her in seriously big trouble.

THE PLAYER
Sean Cassidy is a cold-hearted brute… or so he’s been told. Frequently. By everyone.
His blonde locks, baby blues, and rock hard bod make ladies the world over drool with desire. As the rugby world’s second most infamous player, he should be basking in his success. But Sean has never been content settling for second place, and his frequent confrontations with Lucy’s big brother leave him cold. And when he’s cold, his compulsive little problem lands him in the lap of Lucy Fitzpatrick.

THE PLAN
Sean has a problem only Lucy can solve. Lucy has a problem only Sean can fix. The solution seems obvious: you scratch my back, and I’ll bail you out of jail. But when their business arrangement unexpectedly leaves Sean scorching hot and Lucy on the precipice of inner peace, can they convince the world—and Lucy’s big brother in particular—that this is the real deal?

Either way, both the Player and the Pixie are about to teach each other some pretty monumental lessons about family, life, but most importantly, love.

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Review:

AAAAAHHHH yes!!
Totally perfect cute & fluffy!

First and foremost: I wanna know how do you co-author a novel when you live across the ocean?

I have a thing for co-authored novels and multi-author series. Simply because most of the time they are amazing. Reid and Cosway though take this to the next level... there is such intricate knowledge of irish culture- oh the rugby details, can I just I lurve them...- then there is the entire American view of it, I don't think someone not living in either countries could get that right.  So in many ways this is super clever. Ok, admittedly I wouldn't expect anything else from Reid or Cosway. Clever authors as they are... but there are so many clear "Reid"moments, and yet again not. I really would love to hear how they work together, their creative process and how they manage to create something this unified and seamless...

I wasn't a huge fan of The Hooker and the Hermit to be honest. So while I was looking forward to this- cause well I will read anything these two write. And while I wasn't a fan, I did still like the first instalment. I just... well honestly didn't like Ronan. I mean I didn't like him AT ALL.
So it was interesting seeing him from Lucy's and Sean's POV.
And you know what? I still don't like him, much. LOL.  But I got why everyone else likes him. I do love his relationship with Lucy and with Alice. I did agree with Sean's view of Ronan to be honest, for most of the book anyhow, suddenly I understood where Ronan was coming from. And well, I changed my mind about him. Which is pretty much the best compliment I could give to the character building IMO.
I wasn't sure what to expect from Sean. I did expect more than the spoilt rich asshat he was in book one. And more I got. I love him. Except that he was pulling the poor rich boy routine at the beginning and that, well that, I didn't like that much. I love his little problem, the fact that he isn't Mr. Stud as one expects, that he is super kind under all of the blistering bravado. But most of all, I loved how he reacted to his own anger at the end. From expecting a slightly shallow pretty boy, I got a complex, reflective, interesting and compassionate man! I adore him. In fact, he is one of my favorite male characters by both authors.
Lucy was just the opposite. I loved her in Hooker & Hermit, and she was rather exasperating during this. I mean I got her issues but, well Angie did put her straight. I kept thinking- YOU EEJIET grow up and grow a pair. And again, she was totally redeemed at the end. I do get her and I love her interactions with her friends. Actually, saying that, I always liked the way she was with them. I adore her relationship with Broderick, her fun banter with all of her friends, her love and loyalty to Ronan, her sweet bond with Alice. But I simply couldn't relate to how she was with Sean half the time- and really couldn't understand her behaviour around her mother. I found her super juvenile and well, for a lack of a better word, stupid.
All in all though, Reid and Cosway have created a cool group of people.  The support cast is great, I feel like I know them and I want more of them.
Saying that.. I want a book about Broderick!!!! oh and about Tom? I really hope they will make a spin-off, cause neither of them are rugby players, and well, we do need stories for them. Broderick is even more awesome this time around. And Tom, still an intriguing character.
Alas the next book is about Eileish, Sean's cousin. Oh and while I am at it, can I just say: I did so love the sneak peaks, but they are killing me! I mean Rugby #3 is expect to be released in 2017!!!! AND I am left with that?! Gaaaaahhh!!

The plot is sweet, sexy, unique and funny. Again: do we expect anything else of those two?
Oh and while I wasn't really sure about the smut in the first installment. This is delectable. I loved it!!!

So basically my high expectation were met by this awesome author team. Definitely a fabulous cute & fluffy.  I am looking forward to more, and hoping for way more from them.

Must read for lovers for the genre!

Excerpt

*Sean*

I didn’t know what I was doing.
Requests, things I wanted, words I would never speak or allow myself to think were now uncontainable.
It’s the sex, I reiterated. Again. I’d used this explanation, now on repeat, as a simple justification for the complex cacophony of my mind.
“Be with you?” Her long, dark lashes fluttered, beating like distressed butterfly wings against warming pink cheeks.
I licked my lips, tasting her there. “Yes.”
She stared at me, confused. I was also confused. And oddly frightened.
Because it wasn’t the sex.
Several seconds ticked on as we studied each other in breathless silence. She found her voice before I did. “What does that—”
“Lucy?” Annie’s voice was paired with a soft knock on the bathroom door. “Are you okay?”
I opened my mouth to whisper a clarification to the question Lucy hadn’t quite posed, because I was compelled to tell her it wasn’t the sex. We didn’t have to have sex. We could just . . . talk. Or play cards. Or touch. Or look at each other from across the room.
We could merely be together.
But she covered my mouth with her hand. Her features arrested with unmistakable panic.
“Yes. I’m fine! I just . . . started my period is all. Made a mess in my jeans, like a crime scene.” Lucy hollered in response then grimaced. She immediately mouthed I’m sorry to me. Her cheeks flushed red.
I lifted an eyebrow. She rolled her eyes, ducking her head with obvious embarrassment. I pressed my lips together so I wouldn’t laugh.
Issuing me a quelling look, Lucy released me and skittered out of the stall, whispering, “Stay here and count to three hundred.”
“Oh! Do you need anything?” Annie’s voice was less muffled and I surmised she’d opened the bathroom door.
“Ah, no. Have it all sorted now. Thank God Tom has these nice absorbent napkins instead of those troublesome hand driers. Although I feel like I’m wearing a nappy. They’re bad for the environment, so I should talk to him about replacing the napkins. Maybe make a few available for emergencies . . .”
Lucy’s anxiety-riddled chatter faded as the bathroom door clicked shut.
I released an audible exhale. My heart was beating as though it might leap from my chest. I needed to catch my breath. Neither had anything to do with being caught.
What the fuck were you doing?
It was the sex. She’s phenomenal in bed. You’ve never had that before. It was just sex.
I nodded, reiterating the logic of my justification for the uncharacteristic behavior. If I repeated it enough, perhaps I would believe it.
I didn’t count to three hundred as instructed. I counted to one hundred and twenty-three, then realized what I was doing.

“You’re mad, Sean,” I muttered, shaking myself and promptly leaving the ladies’ room. I checked the cufflinks on my dress shirt—a nervous habit—and strolled back to the table, eyeing the assortment of eejits gathered.

Review:

Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance made me think of two quite funny tidbits that are oddly connected:
I clearly have a thing for Entangled Crush books... They kinda my well written, enjoyable cute & fluffy supplier of late. And CSF just was proof of the fact. Cute, fluffy, well written and so enjoyable.
The second fact is that I have grown to adore multi-author series. And guess who has gotten me into that? Yep, Entangled Crush. The Creative Hearts series is just one of the reason I love multi-author series. I love how each author does one couple, so we have unique POV and different storylines, but the book do also overlap, time wise and naturally there are some of the same people in all the books.
The reason why I am rambling on about these two things is that first I love Entangled Crush books for above reasons, and second Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance does totally cement all of it. Some how the authors have managed to write their own books but they are so well synced it's amazing!

The plot is the let's fake it till me make it romance. And it's rather A to B to C, so quite what one expects and definitely no surprises.

Just like it's predecessors in the series, this is full of teen angst and plenty of drama.
But it also feature beautiful descriptions about the love for their arts. I could totally relate to Mariely's love for acting. And I don't have a single bone in my body that can act!
Cabot's love for painting, his fears and his passion for photography was dear to my heart, those being my own mediums of choice. I honestly feel Roberts did nail these bits.

While the plot is quite your usual usual - this shine with character building. It was amazing to revisit previously seen characters, seeing them from a different POV.
To be honest Willa totally surprised me. Because I actually didn't like her much in How Willa Got Her Groove Back. I have gained a new outlook on her, and well, she totally grew on me.
I love that Roberts and her co-Authors of the series seem to be able to go seamless through the characters. Though for some characters we see a totally different side to them, most of them are just exactly how I remembered. It's like visiting old friends. Which is really brilliant considering each book in the series so far has been written by a different person.
I liked both Mariely and Cabot. I can't wait to see where their journey is taking them next...
Love the support cast except I am a bit disappointed in Audrey. She was one sided in Willa's book, and this was even more cliche. I kinda get that she is the villain and all that. I loved the big showdown - it's totally your high school romantic movie scene - which is entertaining thus good. I admit to being totally gleeful and mentally high-fiving the boys through it. But it's also been done like a gazillion times. And it left me a tad disappointed in Audrey as a character.

As I said this is well written. It's the first book I read by Roberts and I am looking forward to the next book. My only little thing I didn't like about the writing style is that Cabot's POV is written in 3rd person. I would have prefered if it would have been written in 1st person like Mariely's.

And I ask myself, what's next? In the series, for each couple are there more couples or authors?
AND when is the next book coming out?! I don't even care who's book, just any of them..or even better all of them!

Review: Pieces of You and Me by Erin Fletcher

Pieces of You and Me

Author: Erin Fletcher
Publisher: Entangled: Crush
Genre: YA
Release Date: April 18th 2016

Summary:

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains references to drinking, addiction, and just the right amount of angst. You’ll want to save this tortured hero, while at the same time, not want to change a single thing about him!

Five years.

That’s how long I’ve been gone. Since I left my best friend—the girl I loved—behind.

Five seconds.

That's how long it takes to realize I am completely, utterly, screwed. Because now that I’m back, my childhood crush has turned into so much more.

Rylee has changed. We both have. And now I’m drawn to her in a completely different way. To her smile. Her touch. To reliving old memories and making new ones. To the happiness she’s always given me that I haven’t felt since I left.

But her friends are hell-bent on keeping us apart. My dad is one drink away from destroying both of our lives, and maybe I am, too. It’s only a matter of time before I have to leave again, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. I never get a choice.

The one choice I can make? Stay away from Rylee. Because if I don’t, I’ll break her heart—and mine—all over again.

Review:

So the Blurb had it just right... Exactly right. I didn't want to change anything about Chase.
Totally the desirable tortured hero.
Well, until at about 85% that is then. I just wanted to smack him.
But let's backtrack and start at the beginning.

Just like Fletcher's previous novel, I enjoyed her writing. She is great at writing unique special moments and even better at writing about tortured heros.

As I already said I loved Chase. I felt for him, and with him. His love for art was beautifully described, his lethargia was well described and somehow understandable. The way he got away with things, was scary in that it is realistic, sadly. But there was no character growth until the last chapter. He was so tortured so caught up in his own fears- which by the way most of it was only hinted at, there are still a gazillion questions I was just left with. All we are told: 5 years ago he was this sweet nerd, now he is a tortured misfit. How he got from the first to the latter, we only got fed tidbits here and there.
Rylee being his polar opposite today, was his best friend during their nerd times... Now she has a group of friends and seems pretty popular. While I did like Rylee most of the time. Actually to be honest I liked the Rylee that was with Chase. I didn't much care for her action around her friends.
The fact that she didn't tell them about her nerdy-side for example struck me as odd. But more so that she didn't stand up for what she wanted. It annoyed me like hell. I kept thinking they supposedly her friends, but Mya acted half the time more like a mother hen and the other half Rylee acted like if she'd be honest they would all desert her.
I did like the support cast. Even if I found some of them a bit too much. I loved the parents of Chase, their disfunction and lostness, was upsetting but I love how Fletcher made them so human.

The plot had some amazing moments. I loved the notebook. I loved the skateboarding... lots of good moments. BUT it was too short, or actually things changed suddenly and all seemed fine. The End.
There was this great build up, then the slight disappointing big bang and well, a minute of groveling, and HEA. It was just too fast. Considering all that had happened before. All those hints, all the problems and then it was just, ok now all is good. It my biggest issue with the book. The last 15% felt rushed. It's like Fletcher just decided to call it a day. It was a bit anticlimactic but also rather disappointing. I expected somehow more. And I still feel like there should have been more. Fletcher did an amazing job at setting things up, making me wonder what exactly drove Chase, but the it all unraveled way to speedy and we are left with loads of questions and well hoping that Fletcher is publishing another book soon. It lacking the depth it was setup for.

A good cute & fluffy, that was sadly too short and a wee bit rushed at the end.

The first book in an unforgettable series about rewriting your destiny in the city of dreams

Review:

WOW! What a rollercoaster!

I was totally captivated by the awesome plot.
Somehow Briggs always get me all caught up in her books. She does things big and dramatic. Her books aren't slow subtle kind of stories- nope it's all or nothing: fast, dynamic and captivating. Future Shock is in many ways very different than her previous novels, yet it does have that element in common with them. They all are plot driven.

And when it comes to plots, Briggs just out did herself with this one. There are quite a few twists and turns, and two I didn't see coming. Well actually, I kinda expected something, anything- But I would have never guessed the particular event.
The entire book happens over a span of a week- but so much happened, never a dull moment. All the guessing kept me occupied, but so many things did unfold as well.
The most amazing thing however, I didn't only get to know the MCs during this adventure. They all had some pretty interesting character growth as well.

The entire book is written from Elena's POV. And to be frank I wasn't a huge fan of her in the beginning. I found her melodramatic, which is totally unfair, considering her situation. But she was just so poor me, everything is so unfair, yet also so agro. She kinda went on my nerves.
Then we get to meet her companions: Trent, Chris, Zoe and Adam.
Each of them bringing a different skill to their mission, or at least that's what we were told. It started off with rather typecast characters and as time goes one, we get to know them and they slowly slowly become this unique group of youngsters.
The most changes we get to see in Elena, some of her changes in fact were choices that effected the outcome of the story- which is beyond clever IMO. And at the end I realised I totally can identify with her, I care for her and I really like her. Pretty amazing considering that I thought she was totally annoying about 10% in.

I am still reeling from the book. I actually didn't really expect this. I don't exactly know what I expected, but not this. I think I kinda expected something more paranormal. I ain't complaining however. I like the idea of time-traveling stories, the question if we can change the future and the mystery of the storyline had me guessing right until the end.

Great concept and captivating plot make this an enjoyable read.
And now all I can do is wondering where Briggs will take the story next!

Review: My Perfect Mistake by Kelly Siskind

My Perfect Mistake

Author: Kelly Siskind
Publisher: Forever Yours
Series: Over the Top #1
Pages: Paperback, 340 pages
Genre: New Adult
Release Date: April 5th 2016

Summary:

What happens in Aspen is definitely not staying in Aspen . . .

A girls' trip to Aspen was exactly what Shay needed to forget about her toxic ex-boyfriend. She's got her girls, pristine slopes for skiing, and hot guys everywhere. Of course, her epic self-rediscovery goes completely to hell when a wild (and deliciously hot) skier knocks Shay on her ass . . . and war is declared.

Kolton doesn't know what it is about Shay that makes him lose it. Not just his cool---although she does have an unholy gift for that---but his restraint. When anger gives way to explosive chemistry, they're both shaken with the intensity of it. But somewhere between lust and hate, Kolton and Shay realize they could have something real . . . if they don't kill each other first.

Review:

This left me totally divided. I adore bits and loathed others... But mostly My Perfect Mistake made clear that, Siskind's writing will keep me reading anything she throws at me!

I loved Siskind's prose in previous books. But then I also liked the storyline and loved the characters. With My Perfect Mistake it became clear that I am hooked by her writing. Whenever I put the book down and thought about it- there were so many things I found agitating. I am not a huge fan of some of the characters for examples, it's too insta, not sure about the plot... BUT the moment I started reading I was hooked, I didn't care about all the things I will be ranting in a bit. NOPE. Not at all. I gobbled it all nicely up. And that my friends is fantastic writing in my books.

The plot starts off as super-insta-lust. Then take a turn to wait-we-might-have-a-connection to let's-play-coy to full-on-love-and-happiness, another drama-that-makes-wanna-punch-the-two-idiots and finishes with a swoony HEA.
I loved the Aspen bits, even if it was totally insta. I loved the chemistry between Shay and Kolton. Though his "secret" and her quick-to-assume-attitude already were a bit off-putting. I liked the banter and the quick back and forth, the competitive little fights, it's explosive and fun.
Then I found myself hoping that Siskind is going to take a 180 and do it all slow-like... but sadly that didn't happen, so while I found the middle entertaining- I also found it a bit too crafted, trying too hard to be quirky but still cliche.
The last bit, honestly, I totally inhaled it. BUT I was kinda so over all the dramas. As a commitment-phobe I had lost my patience with the excuse of being scared of commitment or hiding behind the past. While it was a joy to read it also felt drawn out. -see? Divided!

I liked Kolton. Who wouldn't? Show me one girl that wouldn't wanna be wooed by him. Yeah, even I would. In fact he is the saving grace of this story. I loved his POV. I found him interesting and could relate to him... and yeah bring on the wooing dude, I would totally cave first minute.
Shay, though I do kinda like her, grated on me. I get her issues- well she rasped on and on and on about it, so there is no missing it. I can't really relate, simply because I have never been in that situation, it's kinda so contrary to my character. But I know it's distinctly possible to be in her situation. I felt really sympathetic for the first 20% then I just felt like she is milking it.
Jackson is sweet, and while I liked him, I found at times that it felt like Siskind is trying to hard to make him a unique character. It felt constructed.
In fact at time the entire support cast felt a wee bit too cliche. But I actually didn't mind it most of the time.
Having said that Shay was annoying, I also have to say, that there were great moments of her character growth. She did make changes that were awesome and I liked that she gradually got her confidence back. So again, I liked parts of the character building and others not so much.

So basically very well written cute & fluffy, that was highly entertaining but a bit too melodramatic at times and a wee bit too drawn out.
Now. The big question is: When is Lily's book coming out?
